Local Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock and Central Ayrshire Conservative candidates Lee Lyons and Marc Hope have welcomed recent figures which showed the number of people claiming out-of-work benefit has fallen in both constituencies by about a quarter in the last year.
A recent report produced by the House of Commons Library highlighted recent figures from Office for National Statistics which showed that claims for Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) fell by 24% in Central Ayrshire and by 27.6% in Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.
Lee said: “I welcome these figures as they show that more people are getting off benefits and getting into work and is a sign that the long-term economic plan set out by the Conservative-led Government is working for people across both local constituencies.
Marc added: “Whilst these are positive signs, we need to continue on the road to recovery to ensure more people get into work in the area, which as we know ensures a more stable environment for those finding employment and their families”.
