Our group leader, Martin Dowey, and his colleagues in Dumfries & Galloway and Northern Ireland have written to the U.K. and Scottish Governments calling for the upgrading of the A77.
The A77 is a vital transport link between Ayrshire, the Scottish Central Belt, and the port of Cairnryan. It is frequently used by local farm traffic and heavy-duty vehicles travelling between the port of Cairnryan and the Scottish Central Belt, as well as commuters for Ayr, Prestwick and Troon.
We have real concerns that if the Scottish and U.K Governments do not commit to the vital investment needed to the A77, ferry companies may move their operations or downgrade them to the detriment of the economy on both sides of the North Channel.
