At today's Government press conference the Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that the Government's Coronavirus Job Protection Scheme is to be extended for an additional month until the end of June.
This scheme covers 80% of workers' wages for the months of March, April, and May if they have been put on leave as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
The Chancellor commented that "With the extension of the coronavirus lockdown measures yesterday, it is the right decision to extend the furlough scheme for a month to the end of June to provide clarity." He added, "It is vital for people's livelihoods that the UK economy gets up and running again when it is safe to do so, and I will continue to review the scheme so it is supporting our recovery."
